I went into rehab a broken frightened man after my last "lapse/relapse" and this was with around 10 years AA
previous, and no alcohol.Trouble was I was a "dry drunk"and unable to understand what that was and
as a result was unaware of my controlling abusive attitudes and
behaviour which inevitably led me to my relapse which lasted for "only"
one day,but that was the last straw. |

My beloved wife said enough was enough so into
rehab I went fighting it all the way. At first I was bewildered and
lost, but soon made welcome,I was "home" I did my lifestory after a week
and whilst traumatic it helped reveal the harm my drinking had done,I
read this out in front of about 12 of my peers and a huge relief to
reveal I was a sick person trying to get well not a bad person trying to
get good.I had started on my journey.

There were tough assignments and times ahead during my 8 week
stay, but slowly the layers of denial, chaos, unmanagebility and years of
living a lie surfaced.Today I have peace in my life and work with drug
and alcohol abusers whose lifes and families have been turned upside
down from the effects of their substance abuse. |

It is rewarding to see people coming through the
doors as I did and leave with peace on their faces, after some healing of
lifes hurts and the tools to continue in their sobriety. Rehab does not
offer magic solutions, but it does give one the ability to make informed
choices as to what type of life we want to
lead. |
